Maybe you've been wondering about our ticket prices?
We take transparency as a core value, so we want to break down where your cash is going when you get tickets for the festival.
Ticket sales cover about 50% of the festival costs, the other 50% is covered by funding we get from grants. Some of the numbers below are based on last year's festival costs.
Now let's look at the costs. First up, we've got our programming costs. This includes making sure we've got amazing daily activities lined up, like compensating workshop facilitators, representatives from various social movements across Europe, and those putting on great concerts. The fees for the educational programme with different kinds of workshop costs about €3100 (10% of the budget) and the cultural (concerts, performances, etc) programme about €3000 (9.5%).
To make this program a reality there's a lot of work in the background. The team meets twice a year in person and on a weekly basis with online meetings throughout the year. It's all volunteering work that we put in, but we use some of the budget to support us with basic necessities like food during organisational retreats and reimbursing travel expenses to the festival. This costs about €6500 (22%). This year, we put around €750 into team trainings to make us better equipped at handling our own biases and team dynamics, as well as external awareness team to improve our ability to handle awareness cases (3%). Finally, a small part of the organisational budget goes to handling online admin stuff (2%).
Then, there are the material costs. We're talking about a compensation for the place that hosts us, which gives us accommodation with all the facilities and part of the equipment for the activities for an amazing price of €4000 for 7 days of festivity and 6 nights of setup and teardown (13%). Then, very importantly, there are the delicious vegan meals that cost about €9500 for three meals a day (30%). Finally, the rest of the materials covers everything from tents, hygiene products, decorations, firewood, marketing materials and unexpected costs, which cost about €3300 (11%).
The totals may not add up to exactly 100% due to rounding.
As with any event like this one, things constantly change and unexpected things come up, which requires us to be flexible and cautious with our budgeting to make sure we're covered in case something goes wrong. Rest assured, we're always looking for ways to make the festival more accessible, but paid tickets are unfortunately still necessary to cover most of the set up costs for the event, also because we have yet to secure all the funding we would like for this year's edition (ideally we would also like to move away from EU funds to not be financed by imperialist institutions).
Anyway, we will keep you in the loop if our financial situation changes, and we are really very grateful for your support when buying a ticket. We truly pour our hearts and souls into planning this festival and we're looking forward to co-creating this space with you.
